Thank you for a great article on radio reception. I operate a Part 15 AM radio station and many of the details here will help my potential listeners (I have been a SuperRadio owner for years). I plan on passing this site along to my friends over at HobbyBroadcaster.net as I'm sure they will find it as informative as I did. Thanks again!

I have just purchased a new car with one of those pathetic 6" rubber duck antennas that stick out of the back of the roof. I have installed a new JVC HD radio into this car. My AM reception is almost non-existent and the FM isn't as good as it could be. I'm looking to replace the 6" duck with something better. The antenna unscrews and is removable. I spend at least 8 hours a day in my car delivering. Some of it moving, much of it parked. I used to be able to DX AM out of my car in the old days. I am looking for an automotive antenna with superior reception of AM and FM signals. I'd be interested in amplifier and receiver suggestions as well.

Thanks

<em>Hi John,

The antenna should not have an amplifier and be 30-31" long; anything else is a compromise.

I'm not an expert on car radios but I do have some knowledge. Pioneer Supertuner IIID radios are my first choice for aftermarket radios and I understand Blaupunkt radios also have amazing results on both AM and FM though the Blaupunkts can vary so you need to do your research if reception is your key criteria.

If you are in your car 8 hours a day then you should consider XM or Sirius as well; I recently purchased an XM due to their college football coverage and have fallen in love with it but I'm lonely so love comes easy!
