7 Web Sites the FM Radio Enthusiast Should Bookmark

There are some sites that have so much value you will continue to return again and again. Interestingly there are 3 message boards but community is a great way to share knowledge, particularly real experience and not theory. The following are among the best; add your own favorite FM radio Web site in a comment.

  1. The Tuner Information Center covers vintage tuners but also much, much more. Tons of information is available for both the fan of FM program listening or the FM DXer. The TIC gets to the bottom of the truth about those famous tuners and actually compare the most storied ones including the incredibly rare and/or expensive. There is also an excellent section on FM antennas. The site stays updated and is deep with information.
  2. The message board for the Tuner Information Center is at Yahoo. Of all the message boards visited, this one is designated for the FM hobbyist. The FM Tuner Group on Yahoo has been active for years and is very technical but neophytes are welcome as well. Tuners and associated items are all discussed as well as the state of FM radio. The archives are rich with information so it is worth searching for the specific segments of FM radio you are interested.
  3. Radio Road is the FM tuner forum at Audio Asylum. There is a lot of value on this site. Some issues are a bit fuzzier because of the various levels of knowledge of the posters but it is an excellent resource and quite active.
  4. This may seem obvious, but eBay is a fantastic source for new and used tuners, receivers, antennas, cable, and just about any stereo item you can imagine. One has to be careful when making a purchase but you’ll have a blast searching for those items you have always wanted.
  5. The Radio-Locator is the most comprehensive radio station search engine on the internet with links to over 10,000 radio station web pages and over 2500 audio streams from radio stations in the U.S. and around the world. You can search by location, frequency, call letters, and other parameters; particularly useful is the map link to the transmitter site for each station.
  6. Audiokarma’s Tuner message board is not the most active but the knowledge level of many of the users is high and the advice is generally spot-on.
  7. Bruce Carter’s Electronics Hobby Page has more information than you’ll ever need or be able to go through, but you’ll find a nugget here you can use.
